30 Day Photo Gratitude Challenge (16-20)

Day 16: Animals. I met Dixie as we were on our way to Wassaw for Father's Day. We stopped by Donnie's dock (her owner) for some bait on the way there. He has his own TV show called Fishin' with Dixie. She's a star! Such a gentle giant. Makes we want a Great Dane.

Day 17: Memories. The early Savannah Christian days. Skating boo boo on my knee. Pretty standard for me back then.

Day 18: Something New. My lemon essential oil & spray bottle. Ready to make some homemade air freshener!

Day 19: Best Friend. As you may guess, my sissy. Here she is on fly patrol while we went to help Grama & the church ladies make some squash relish at St. John's.

Day 20: Seasonal. What could be more appropriate than summery shades of nail polish at Target?

The Innerworkings of My Brain

I woke up this morning with my mind full of ideas. In case you were wondering, here are some of the things floating around in my head....

1) Dr. Ben Carson for President!

2) I was told by a friend that I have a gift of putting people at ease & giving off a calming presence. It was the nicest compliment I've ever received. As calming as I may be, its at my own expense because I'm the one with anxiety!

3) I have a few small business ideas- putting them into action is the hard part.

4) Know who you are and don't be ashamed of what makes you different. "Different" what makes you marketable.

5) One of my dreams is to live in a house with a sun room where I can have a talking bird. (Sun room off limits to the cat)

6) I'm kind of learning to be a dog person. Cats are still my number one. In fact, I already have the name of my next cat picked out....unless its a female.

7) I'm not ready to go back to work, but I do miss my routine and the stories I will have to tell when I'm  around the kids again. I'm glad I have a job that allows me to make a difference. That is where I find fulfillment.

8) Leadership is not in my nature. I'm perfectly content being an Indian in a world of Chiefs.

9) I wish I was better at keeping the sink clean. To me, that sets the tone for the whole house. People like my sister make me feel hopeless... she actually enjoys doing dishes. What is wrong with her?

10.  I could probably make good money selling the things I no longer use or need around this house. Pack rat tendencies get the best of me.

30 Day Photo Gratitude Challenge (11-15)

This week wasn't quite as exciting, but here are my day 11-15 photos...

Day 11: Something Old- I've been wanting an old ladder to stick in the corner to act as a shef for plants and other odds n' ends. Josh's mom pulled through and found this at Sandfly Market. Here are the before and after pics. I used Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Paris Grey. Not a huge change, but it freshened up nicely.

Day 12: Hands. I thought this was a sweet picture.

Day 13: Written Words. This is from Bonefish with my teacher friends. "Summer time is when teachers become human."

Day 14: Movement. Here's my Kitchen Aid whipping up some Nutter Butter Banana Pudding. Probably my favorite dessert. Ever. Next time you make banana pudding, definitely substitute the Nilla Wafers with Nutter Butters.

Day 15: Technology. This is the best picture I could come up with. It was a last ditch effort...

And that's all folks. Three more weeks of this. Are you sick of me and my gratitude yet?

30 Day Photo Gratitude Challenge (6-10)

Back again with 6- 10!

Day 6: Books. These are most of my current reads.

Day 7: Something Funny. Josh's (Two Smart Cookie) soccer ball cookies were quickly forgotten when he opened the present that had a real soccer ball inside. Such a kid. Notice the half eaten cookie.

Day 8: Favorite Color. Red, White, & Blue!
USA vs. Nigeria Soccer Game in Jacksonville for Josh's birthday.

Day 9: Inspiring Person. Stephanie & all the other teachers (and yogis) at Savannah Power Yoga

Day 10: Nature. Too colorful to pass up!

Five more to come next week!

Whyndam Riverwalk Jacksonville: Blackballed

I usually don't do this, but.....I have to share this hotel experience from the weekend. Maybe I can spare an innocent soul.

After booking our room 3 weeks in advance, we arrived at check in time only to be told that our "king bed" hotel room wasn't ready & to wait in the lobby with all the other guests who were also waiting on king beds. Approximately 50 people were in the lobby with a long line at the check-in counter. We were told to give them 35 minutes & then "flag them down" if no one had told us our room was ready by then. (How professional, right?!) Meanwhile, as we waited we talked to other future guest who had already been waiting over an hour. They were told that their "double bed" room was not available and that's what everyone in the lobby was waiting on. This clearly shows that they were not being truthful, rather trying to delay confrontation as long as possible. We overheard one manager giving nothing but excuses to guests rather than trying to solve the unavailable rooms issue. For example, he said " we had a basketball team stay here last night & that's why the rooms aren't ready." (But you're a HOTEL...that's what hotels are for...)

Also while waiting, the bartender charged double for a liquor drink when we only ordered one. As we were talking to another future guest at the bar about the confusion with the rooms, the bar tender overheard the conversation and scoffingly laughed at the debacle ensuing in the lobby. At the same time, the food and beverage manager was strutting around the lobby wearing his business suit, which to me, is a welcoming sign for guests to approach him with grievances, considering the circumstances. When we approached him for answers, he simply replied, " I'm just the food and beverage guy- I help out when I can." Then he proceeded to tell us the check in and check out times as if this information would do us any good.

Forty minutes later, we finally flagged down the manager, Kelly, who thankfully took our card and found us a room. (props to Kelly) When we returned to the bar from the pro soccer game that night, the bartender told us that the Whyndam was having to pay other guests to stay at different hotels because they did not have their rooms available in time. He was also extremely rude to his coworkers behind the bar. Anytime someone ordered food, he made sure to tell them that it would take awhile (ex: over an hour for wings). In reality, the wings came out in 20 minutes and he clearly did not want to be bothered with selling food. Not who I would want working for my company.

Upon leaving, we were double charged for parking. This was cleared up with the front desk after bringing it to their attention, however, I soon noticed an extra $50 charge on my debit card. When I called to rectify this situation, I was told that the charge was to cover incidentals & would be put back on my card in 4-5 business days. It would've been nice to know this beforehand. In closing, I believe this has been the worst hotel experience I've ever had. I would recommend this hotel to no one.

On a positive note....the bed felt like sleeping on a cloud. Where can I get my hands on some of those pillows!?

30 Day Photo Gratitude Challenge (1-5)

I love those "take-a- picture-a-day-and-document" type deals, so this photo challenge was right up my alley. It is an Instagram challenge, so for those of you who follow me on there, you'll be seeing it twice. Sorry. Instead of clogging up a whole blog post with 30 pictures, I decided to put it on my blog weekly. So far its been really easy and I haven't missed a day. Hopefully I can say the same for the remaining 25 days. I posted this list up on my fridge and I cross through them each day. Give me a list and I'm a happy girl.

Day 1: Favorite Food: Limes ( I couldn't pick just one and this lime was sitting out on my counter)

Day 2: Smile ( an unwilling smile)

Day 3: Happiness. (Savannah Power Yoga is my happy place)

Day 4: Leaves (Basil still counts as a leaf in my book. Cooking Cauliflower Crust Greek Pizza with Grama)

Day 5: Morning Sky. (I made myself wake up a little earlier than normal to take this pic)

Be back next week with 6-10!
